Jaguar Land Rover has started bookings of the new Land Rover Discovery Sport in India. The new SUV is yet to be launched for the Indian market, which we expect to happen in the coming months.
The Discovery Sport is underpinned by a lighter platform, sports the company's latest design philosophy and comes loaded with many features. Taking cues from the success of the Range Rover Evoque, the new entry-level SUV sports a similar fascia and even tail lamp design. With the incorporation of a foldable third row, five adults and two children can be seated comfortably. While the new SUV is expected to replace the Freelander 2 in the long run, both will be sold alongside at least in the initial days.
The new SUV will be offered in the top HSE-spec and employ more efficient engines. The two engine options include a TD4 150PS motor and a TD4 180PS mill. The former will churn out 148bhp of power and come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the latter TD4 powerplant will deliver 178bhp of power and come mated to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The manufacturer had started the local assembly of the new Land Rover Discovery Sport a couple of months ago and will launch the car for the Indian market by the end of September or early October. We can expect a competitive price for this CKD product.
