Jaguar Land Rover India's new Discovery Sport has received over 400 confirmed bookings ever since its launch. With this huge demand, the waiting period for the SUV has, at the moment, increased to four months.
The Discovery Sport does not look like the typical old-school Land Rover models. It has evolved to be a modern car and has lot of elements that are atypical to Land Rovers. The car is underpinned by a lighter platform, sports the company's latest design philosophy and comes loaded with many features. Taking cues from the success of the Range Rover Evoque, this new entry-level SUV sports a similar fascia and tail lamp design.
The Discovery Sport is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 148bhp and 400Nm of torque. It uses the nine-speed ZF gearbox from the Evoque and powers all four wheels when required via Land Rover’s acclaimed Terrain Response Technology. This nine-speed automatic gearbox made its Indian debut with the 2015 Range Rover Evoque.
The good demand isn’t surprising as the new Discovery Sport has an edge over the competing mid-sized luxury SUVs. With the incorporation of a foldable third row, five adults and two children can be seated comfortably. And with Land Rover’s pedigree and more than decent ground clearance of 211mm, the Discovery Sport has respectable off-roading capabilities making it a good prospective buy for consumers.
