Land Rover has been working on the new Defender for quite some time now. The brand recently teased the production-ready car for the first time and now there is some great news for American fans of the Defender as the legendary model will finally make a comeback, with Land Rover set to introduce the model officially after over two decades.
While the car shown in teaser was covered in camouflage, we already know how the new Defender will look like. Unlike its perfectly square predecessor, the new Defender gets a few rounded edges, flared wheel arches and modern bits on the outside. As for the cabin, we expect the new Defender to be modern and luxurious like the new breed of Land Rovers.
While it will be offered in both three-door and five-door avatars like the Defender has always been, we suspect the new-gen car will go the Discovery way. We think it might not be as rugged and capable as the older Defenders, but given the modern-tech, it should be able to manage everything except hardcore rock-climbing and stuff, which anyway will be best reserved for purpose-built off-roaders.
There’s little to go about right now but we know this much that the car will sport a mix of the classic Defender lines as well as the latest design philosophy from Land Rover. We believe that it will be the same story on the inside with a mix of old school design and new Land Rover tech.
What will be quite new will be a possible hybrid setup for the SUV as it will get some form of hybrid technology to improve efficiency and give it the ability to operate with ease at the bottom end of the scale.
