Come 2017 and Lamborghini could have a turbocharged model in its line-up of high performance, uber expensive cars. According to a report by Auto Express UK, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has gone on record, stating that the upcoming Urus SUV – due in 2017 - could be the Italian carmaker’s first turbocharged model.
The CEO declined to go into details but if we go by the report, the Urus could make use of Audi’s high-performance twin-turbo 4-litre V8 engine. This engine, which currently powers the RS6 and the RS7, could be the ideal fit for Lamborghini’s to-be SUV.
Given that the Urus will be based on the same MLB platform which will also forms the next generation Audi Q7 and Bentley’s upcoming SUV, sharing powertrains makes quite a bit of sense for all three brands operating under Volkswagen’s umbrella.
Lamborghini is betting big on the Urus which could be priced around £140,000 (Rs 1.42 crore), when launched sometime in 2017. The SUV is being developed using a multi-material platform made from a variety of aluminum and carbon fibre bits, keeping the overall weight down and improving the handling. It is given, then, that the SUV will be the sportiest of its kind when it arrives in the market.
