Lamborghini will launch the Urus SUV in India tomorrow. Named after a species of wild Ox that predates modern cattle, the Urus is Lamborghini’s second SUV and comes nearly 25 years after their first SUV, the LM002, went out of production. It was showcased as a concept car in 2012 and was confirmed for production in 2016.
The Urus is Lamborghini’s first modern SUV and has picked up much of its design from the current Lamborghini philosophy which can be seen on the Huracan supercar. In fact, to put it plainly, the Urus looks like a raised version of the Huracan but with all the proportions boosted up to suit the SUV nature of the vehicle. The cabin too is standard Lamborghini fare, but with a lighter tone to match the wider appeal of the car. We have spoken in detail about the design of the vehicle and you can read about that here.
The Urus is underpinned by the MLB EVO platform which it shares with the Bentley Bentayga, Volkswagen Touraeg, Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7. It is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 621bhp/850Nm with power going to all four wheels via a new AWD system and an eight-speed AT.
The Urus will play an important role in boosting numbers for the Italian automaker’s volumes not just in India, but in various markets across the world. We believe that Lamborghini will price the Urus at around Rs 3.5 crores.
