The Lamborghini Urus SUV is now likely to be built in Italy after a report has surfaced that the Italian government is now willing to offer an incentive to the automaker to keep its production on home soil. The automaker had previously hinted that the vehicle, if greenlighted, was likely to be produced outside of Italy due to their Sant’Agata facility not having enough capacity to meet the demand.
The report suggests that the Italian Prime Minister and top brass of the supercar maker have met and reached a deal whereby the company will benefit from an 80 million Euro incentive package if the Urus is produced on Italian soil. It seems that the Italian government is working on a two-fold front with regard to production of the Urus. The first is that the expansion that Lamborghini will undertake to increase its capacity means more jobs and money in the region. Secondly, Lamborghini is one of the pillars of Italy’s modern history and this in the larger scheme of things is the government trying to safeguard its heritage.
The Lamborghini Urus SUV concept was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2012. It is their second SUV and has arrived almost 26 years after LM002 hit the streets in 1986. It shares much of its design with the Aventador hypercar but will most likely use the underpinnings of the Audi Q7/Porsche Cayenne/VW Touraeg.
