Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the production version of its first hyper SUV, the Urus at their new plant in Italy. This is the Italian automaker’s second SUV after the legendary LM002 and will go into production in 2018 and go on sale later next year. This vehicle was first shown as a concept car in 2012 and is named after a species of wild ox that predates modern day cattle.
This is the first time that Lamborghini has gone the turbo way and in style. The Urus debuts a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 621bhp/850Nm of torque with power going to all four wheels via a new AWD system and an eight-speed AT. You get various driving modes (including one called Ego that you can customise to your specific tastes) and an air suspension as a part of the package. If that wasn’t enough, the bovine name and chosen animal suits the nature of the Urus as this is a Lamborghini that attacks any terrain.
This is the first time that Italian automaker has created a four-seater concept in the modern generation of its cars and in that typical Lamborghini style; it looks furious, beautiful and fast all at the same time. The cabin shares many elements with the Huracan and Aventador-like the instrument cluster, steering wheel and stacked centre console but everything has been given a softer look to match the family oriented image of the car. You get electrically adjustable leather seats and multi-zone climate control in addition to other features that one would expect from a car in this segment and price category.
The Urus is India-bound and will play an important role in boosting the Italian automakers volumes games both in India and abroad. It is too early to speculate a launch date for India but we can hope for late 2018!
