Lamborghini has unveiled its first plug-in hybrid concept, the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4, at the 2014 Paris Mondial de l’Automobile. There is no confirmation from the manufacturer whether or they intend to bring this car into production form yet.
The Asterion LPI 910-4 borrows design cues and cutting-edge engineering expertise from the current Lamborghini cars and is conceived and developed entirely in-house by Lamborghini. The company says they have added innovative hybrid technology, thus creating a Lamborghini that is clearly different – with a new, unexpected and sensual design, in line with the technical characteristics of the car - but yet is still unmistakably a Lamborghini.
There is more to the car than just the design. Seen under the hood is the powertrain that combines the 5.2-litre V10 mill to a trio of electric motors. The engine is good to produce 610bhp of power, while the motors add 300bhp of power. Outputting a claimed 910bhp of power, the powerplant comes mated to the seven-speed DSG from the Huracan. With all this power the car can do the 0-60kmph sprint in three seconds while having a top speed of 199miles per hour (320kmph).
Making its world debut in Paris, this is the most powerful Lamborghini we've ever seen and goes up in the league of the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari. If Lamborghini puts the Asterion LPI 910-4 Hybrid Concept into production, it will be the first gasoline-electric hybrid from the manufacturer.
Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, said, "Lamborghini is always looking ahead, investing in new technologies and setting new benchmarks, delivering the unexpected. The Asterion LPI 910-4 is a true Lamborghini- emotional, with a stunning design, powerful, yet conceived more for comfortable luxury daily cruising than for ultimate track performance."
