Lamborghini will launch the Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster for the Indian market in Mumbai on January 25. The roadster was unveiled for the global market in November and it is likely that the Italian automaker is looking to sell the roadster on the success of the hardtop. The coupe has already sold over 1300 units since it was launched in 2011.
The most obvious change is the detachable two-piece carbon fibre roof. Weighing in at just over six kilos, the roof has to be removed manually and can be stored in the front compartment. The roof of the engine has also been modified to maintain structural rigidity and improve cooling.
The roadster has also been fitted with a wind deflector and a powered rear windshield. While the former, depending on how badly you want the wind to alter your appearance, can be removed and stored away, the latter controls air-flow in the cabin as well as loudness of the engine noise. The car has also been given proper windows to ensure that there is a full-fledged cabin when the roof is up.
The Aventador Roadster will use the same engine as the hardtop, a 6.5-litre V12 producing 700bhp and 539Nm of torque. This mill is expected to give the car a top speed of 350kmph and a 0-100kmph time of three seconds.
The body of the new car sports a two-tone paint job. The windshield pillar, the two roof sections and the rear window area up to the "fins" are painted in gloss black in contrast to the colour of the car. The range of colours available for the Roadster has been supplemented with a very light, metallic blue colour, Azzuro Thetis, whose tone varies with the angle of the light.
We expect that Lamborghini will price the roadster around Rs 20 lakh more than the hardtop version. Stay tuned to CarWale for all the details from the launch.
