Lamborghini is looking to make a new entry level compact sportscar that is expected to undercut the specs, performance and price of their ‘entry level’ Huracan.
Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali briefly told reporters that though the brand could add the new model to their line-up, he added that the determining factor rested on the success of their upcoming SUV, the Urus. Lamborghini is expected to introduce this SUV in 2018, and also has a plug-in hybrid version of the car in the works.
"We need to make sure the third model (Urus) will be stable enough for us to think about a fourth model," said CEO Stefano Domenicali. What’s interesting about the new car is that it will be underpinned by a modular platform that could be used throughout the line-up. It will be quite unlike the Aventador and Huracan which use separate platforms. The main benefit being the reduced costs involved in building a new car from the scratch.
Since the Urus is expected from Lamborghini in 2018, it is possible that the brand could debut this entry level sportscar by the year 2021.
