Lamborghini will name the Gallardo's successor as the Huracan and not the Cabrera as informed by a source to AutoExpress. The name Huracan, which means hurricane in Spanish, will be adopted by the supercar maker for the Gallardo's replacement.
The word Huracan was originally coined in by the Mayan civilisation to name their god of storms, winds and fire. It was later taken up by the people of Spain to imply hurricane. Lamborghini thinks there is definitely more relevance to the name of the car, Huracan, considering it to be pretty aggressive in looks. It is believed that Lamborghini got the name Huracan trademarked last year on April 19.
The car has been spotted testing many times before in a camouflaged avatar. Though not many conclusions could be drawn from the prototype, we suspect the new supercar has borrowed traits from the design lines of the Aventador. These lines will be a lot more smoother and the car donning a wider base and lower height.
No particular engine specifications are available yet, but the Huracan is believed to be powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine tuned to produce 600bhp. It will come mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The car will underpin a new aluminium spaceframe platform which the 2015 variant of the Audi R8 will also be built on.
Lamborghini recently took the 10-year-old Gallardo off the production line. The supercar will soon be replaced by its successor called the Huracan. It is expected to go into production after its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year. With the Lamborghini Huracan coming soon, we expect the car to violently take the car fans in surprise just as the hurricane does.
