In the world of race tracks it is the ultimate pilgrimage that one must make if they are crazy about circuit racing. Yes we are talking about the Nurburgring, the shrine of speed where every single turn can result in higher exit speed or a horrible crash. It also the one place which manufacturers of performance vehicles use to benchmark their products. As the years have rolled by, the times have tumbled and now it looks like Koenigsegg wants to drop the lap record of six minutes and 48 seconds set by the Radical SR8 LM in 2009.
The Swedish hypercar maker plans to set two lap records-first in the Agera and then in its incredible One:1 . It says breaking the record is unnecessary but will do so to prove itself in the hypercar market. The Radical SR8 LM currently holds the lap record and is a production ready car but is built for a specific purpose. Koenigsegg aims to beat the Porsche 918 Spyder which set a lap time of six minutes and 57 seconds at the hands of Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb. It aims to achieve a lap time of six minutes and 30 seconds, a previously unheard of time among production vehicles. The record attempt is slated to be held sometime in 2015.
The common trend nowadays is for manufacturers to record the lap time and then post it on YouTube. We believe that video of Koenigsegg’s fabled lap time, if achieved, will be fantastic to watch. We will update you as soon as it is out.
