- To debut in 2025
- Could sit between Sonet and Seltos
It’s been a while since Kia has updated its existing lineup. However, Kia has been working on a new model, an SUV under the sub-four-metre category. We know that the brand already has the Sonet in the same space, however, this one could be positioned above the Sonet and under the Seltos mid-size SUV.
A close observation of the test mule when compared with the Sonet reveals that the new SUV might have a longer wheelbase while measuring under four metres in length. Additionally, this model could also have increased width, thereby addressing the rear row space that has been a long-standing issue with the Sonet.
Besides this, the spy pictures also confirm a tall and upright stance with a boxy body style, split headlamp setup, and squared wheel arches. In typical Kia fashion, the new SUV is expected to be well-equipped with features such as an electric sunroof, cooled front seats, powered driver seat, 360-degree camera, and a digital instrument cluster.
While the powertrain details are under wraps, we expect it to borrow the engines from the Sonet which include 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines with manual and automatic gearboxes. An electric derivative of this compact SUV is also on the cards.
While rumours suggest that the SUV will be called ‘Clavis’, Kia is yet to reveal the official name of the SUV. It is slated to be unveiled later this year followed by a price announcement in 2025.
