• To be unveiled next year
• Multiple powertrain options
There is still some room within Kia’s line-up for another small EV. According to our sources, the Korean carmaker is working on a new compact EV which will be positioned below the still-new EV3. The car is likely to be called the EV2, prototypes of which have been spotted in Europe.
The EV3 is 4.3m long which takes it at the upper end of the B-SUV segment and practically on the doorstep of the mid-size premium segment. Kia, then, has room to add a smaller model to its growing family of electric vehicles. This is where the new EV2 comes in. After the arrival of the new Hyundai Inster, we could assume that sooner or later Kia will emulate the move to have a compact electric crossover. However, it is important to note that the Inster is an A-SUV. The new EV2 will position itself as a more versatile and practical option. The latter is needed within the Kia range after the demise of the e-Soul.
As a 100 per cent electric vehicle, all eyes will be on the propulsion system. The EV2 will be marketed with different powertrains. There will be a choice of two battery sizes. In the best case, the maximum range would exceed 400km as per the WLTP cycle. Another important aspect will be charging times. Kia has set a clear target for the new EV2, which is to be able to complete the charging process from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes through a fast charger.
The new EV2 will be officially unveiled sometime in the second half of 2025. It will therefore arrive at the dealerships as a 2026 model. It will be manufactured in Europe, more specifically at Kia’s facility located in Slovakia.
