- These EVs will be built in India
- First EV will be launched in 2021
Kia had announced its India plans earlier this year when they made their first ever appearance at the Auto Expo 2018. Along with the SP concept-based SUV, there will be two more models and now Kia has announced an India-specific EV as well.
The Kia EV will be built in India at the Anantpur plant in Andhra Pradesh and we can expect it to be launched by 2021. Kia has a global target of building 16 EVs by 2025 including hybrids and fuel-cell vehicles. Kia wants to be a pioneer of the EV segment in India which is currently being led only by Tata and Mahindra. Maruti-Suzuki, the largest player in India is surprisingly silent on EVs, but will have its portfolio ready by the time the market is primed for EVs.
As of now, Kia is building its dealer-base in the country and also gauging dealer and public reactions to their product line-up so as to finalise the other two cars to be launched by 2021.Â
