- First car in the segment to get ventilated rear seats
Unveiled in India
Kia has revealed its fourth model for the Indian car market in the form of the Syros (Pronounced Cy-ros) and it will find a place between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s lineup. It’s a sub-4 metre SUV but with additional rear space and segment-first features. Prices are expected to be announced next month with bookings opening on 3 January 2025.
Variants Explained
Kia Syros HTK
This is the base variant for the Kia Syros range and is only available with the 1.0-litre petrol engine in six-speed MT guise. Exterior highlights of this variant include 15-inch steel wheels, halogen headlamps, shark fin antenna and silver front and rear skid plates.
Inside you get dual-tone grey and black semi-leatherette upholstery, a 12.30-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless phone mirroring, a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines, power mirrors and windows, rear AC vents, door curtains and four USB-C charging ports.
HTK (O)
Over the HTK trim, this optional variant gets features like an electric sunroof, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels (Diesel only) auto-folding power mirrors, roof rails and a passenger side seat-back pocket.
HTK+
This is the first variant where you have a two-pedal option for the 1.0-litre GDi turbo petrol engine and there are certain features available with the AT petrol version. Standard features include 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, dual-pane panoramic sunroof and blue and grey dual-tone upholstery. Inside, you get features like a split folding rear seat with a recline function and cruise control. The 1.0-litre AT variant has features like button start, follow me home function for the headlamps, drive modes, and electric parking brake.
HTX
Now we move to the upper levels of the Kia Syros hierarchy and in this variant, you get features like LED headlamps and tail lamps and leather-wrapped steering wheels and gear knobs. You also get features like front ventilated seats, rear wiper, and one-touch function for all windows. Finally, the AT variant, at this level, also gets paddle shifter levers.
HTX+
The HTX+ variant gets features like 17-inch alloy wheels, puddle lamps, dual-tone grey and orange cabin, sporty pedals, 64-shade ambient lighting, digital instrument cluster, climate control, Harman Kardon sound system, Kia Connect, air purifier and dashboard camera with mobile app. Additionally, it provides ventilation for the rear seats, automatic iRVM, wireless charger, and rear disc brakes. The HTX+ and HTX+ (O) variants are only available with the six-speed AT for diesel and a seven-speed DCT for petrol.
HTX+ (O)
When launched, this will be the most expensive variant of the Kia Syros that you can buy and is the one featured in our video. Over the HTX+ variant, it gets level-2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera as additional features.
CarWale’s choice
Kia is yet to announce pricing for the Syros and that is expected in January 2025. In the current scenario, if ADAS is not high on your priority list, then the HTX+ variant is a good deal. However, this could change depending on what Kia keeps as the price difference between the HTX+ and HTX+ (O) variants.
Expected pricing and competition
We expect Kia to price the Syros in the region of Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 16 Lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a rival for the likes of the Maruti Fronx, Maruti Brezza, Toyota Taisor, Mahindra XUV3X0 and of course the Kia Sonet. We can also look at cars like the entry-level versions of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor and the Honda Elevate.
