- Kia’s Fourth Budget Model for India
- Expected to share powertrain with Sonet SUV
Global reveal
The Kia Syros compact SUV will officially have its global debut in India on 19 December. This is Kia’s fourth budget model and will find a place between the Sonet and Seltos in its hierarchy. One of the main aims of Syros will be to address the rear seat issues that have been characteristic of the Sonet since its launch in 2020.
Syros highlights
The overall design will be a boxy silhouette with short overhangs, large wheels and low-set headlamps. Spy images reveal that the cabin will be shared with the Sonet but with the additional second-row space. A panoramic sunroof has been confirmed but we can also expect features like climate control with rear vents, dual digital screens with wireless phone mirroring, connected car technology, powered driver’s seat and level-1 ADAS for the top-spec variants. HT-line and GT-line are expected to be the standard variant nomenclatures while we could also see an X-Line variant as the first planned update for the SUV.
Powertrain and competition
It is expected to get all of the Sonet’s engine options in both two-pedal and three-pedal guises. This means the 1.2-litre NA petrol, 1.0-litre GDi turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. Rivals for the car are expected to include the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Maruti Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Mahindra XUV 3XO and of course the Kia Sonet itself.
