After releasing the exterior design sketches of the Kia SP2i on 14 May, the company has, today, teased the interiors of the India-bound mid-size SUV. Sweeping shapes and technical details characterise the cabin. The interior of the SP2i, according to Kia Motors, is designed for tech-savvy, young-at-heart buyers who wish to make a bold statement.
At the centre of the dashboard is a high-definition 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for navigation. The display also doubles-up as a medium to access a range of features. Staying true to the Kia SP Concept, the horizontal unit is housed in a sleek frame that also integrates the fully-digital instrument cluster, along with a large MID. The dashboard and the interior trim get a dual-tone black and brown finish. The car also comes with what Kia calls the 'Sound Mood Lighting' technology that alters the cabin's ambient lighting according to user preferences, thereby creating a high level of personalised driving experience.
Then there's the leather-wrapped, multi-functional steering wheel, digital display for the automatic climate control, and passenger grab handle and twin cup holders on the centre console. The cabin has silver accents on the floating display, air-con vents, centre console, door pads and the steering wheel. The Kia SP2i will also feature an electronic parking brake (EPB), and there's also a rotary knob (possibly for selecting the various drive modes) near the gearbox lever. The multiple buttons around the gear knob suggest that the car will come with features like hill hold control, vehicle stability control, hill descent control, traction control and much more.
Kia Motors claims the SP2i will have a premium cabin unlike any other car in the mid-size SUV segment, and premium-quality materials have been used to achieve this. The SUV will also get an automatic day/night IRVM, sliding central armrest and dual-tone upholstery for the seats.
The production-spec Kia SP2i will make its world debut in India on 20 June, and it is expected to go on sale in the latter half of the year. Under the hood, the SP2i will employ newly-developed 1.5L turbocharged petrol and diesel engines that will be available across manual and automatic gearbox options. The SUV is likely to be launched in the price bracket of Rs. 12-16 lakhs (ex-showroom).
