The mid-SUV segment has witnessed a modest growth of seven per cent in August, primarily due to two new debutants in the Indian market namely – the Kia Seltos and the MG Hector. Moreover, the sales report reveal that the recently updated Renault Duster has also regenerated interest among potential buyers.
The newly launched Kia Seltos leads the mid-SUV segment with 6,236 units sold in August, while Hyundai has sold 6,001 units of the Creta last month. Hyundai has witnessed a 42 per cent drop in Year-On-Year sales for the Creta with 10,394 units sold in August 2018. MG Motor has sold 2,018 units of the Hector last month, while the recently updated Renault Duster has witnessed a growth of 58 per cent with 967 units sold in August 2019 as against 613 units sold in the same period last year.
The Mahindra Scorpio takes the third position with a 21 per cent drop in sales with 2,862 units sold in August 2019 as against 3,606 units sold in August 2018. Two other new entrants in the Indian market, namely – Tata Harrier and Nissan Kicks have not found many takers with 635 units and 172 units, respectively, sold in August 2019. In an effort to regenerate interest around the Harrier, Tata Motors has introduced the ‘Dark’ edition of the SUV.
The automotive industry has been witnessing a lull period for a while now, however, we expect to see a marginal improvement in terms of automotive sales during the festive season.
