Petrol is leading the charge.
Kia is witnessing higher demand for the petrol-powered version of the Syros ahead of its official price announcement on 1 February. In fact, out of the 10,000 bookings, more than 60 per cent are for the petrol variant, while the remaining are for the diesel-powered model.
Transmission choices
A similar trend is observed with transmissions, as the MT variants (across both fuel options) account for 60 per cent of the demand, while AT variants make up the remaining 40 per cent. Additionally, the most in-demand colour is the launch shade of Frost Blue, chosen by 20 per cent of the buyers.
Petrol has become the more popular option in this part of the market, so Kia’s booking numbers shouldn’t be surprising. However, the fact that the MT variants have received more bookings than the AT variants (across both petrol and diesel) is somewhat unexpected. This ratio could change once Kia announces the prices and the cost differences between the variants are revealed.
Export plans
Kia has said that it will fulfil domestic demand for the Syros before considering exports to both RHD and LHD markets. So far, Kia has exported every car manufactured at its Anantapur facility, and the Syros is expected to join the queue. However, globally, it is expected to feature a 1.5-litre powertrain, similar to the Sonet offered in the international market.
