- Kia QYI will share its platform with the Hyundai Venue
- Expected to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo
- It will be launched in August next year
The Kia QYI compact SUV has eluded us until now, by only revealing its posterior. However, a new set of spy images from South Korea have revealed interesting details about the compact SUV, including its fascia.
Although heavily camouflaged, we can notice the tigernose grille, front parking sensors and a large air-dam. Our sources tell us that the QYI will have an imposing fascia, which can be attributed to the SUV's compact dimensions and the large radiator grille. We can also expect it to feature LED headlights and fog lamps. It will get 16-inch wheels that will be wrapped with 215/60 R16 tyres. We can expect higher versions to come equipped with machined alloys.
The Kia QYI compact SUV will share its underpinnings with the Hyundai Venue. However, it will feature a different top hat, and possibly, distinct interiors. What it will borrow from the Venue are the smart connectivity features, which will be branded as UVO Connect by Kia.
Under the hood, it will be powered by a 118bhp 1.0-litre direct-injection, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor and an 82bhp 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated gasoline motor. The former will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DCT, while the latter will be available with a five-speed manual box. Additionally, the Kia QYI will also get a 1.5-litre diesel motor from the Seltos. However, it is likely to be offered in the 90bhp/220Nm tune and will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Kia Motors will showcase a near-production version of the QYI compact SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The car will be launched in India in August 2020. Kia is considering to price the QYI aggressively in India, and may undercut the Hyundai Venue. It will rival the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the upcoming Tata Nexon facelift, Mahindra XUV300 and the Ford EcoSport.
