- The Optima might compete against the likes of the Skoda Octavia and the incoming Honda Civic
- Will come loaded with features and get potent engine options
Kia is all set to come in all guns blazing with the SP Concept being its first Indian offering. We had already mentioned about Kia coming in with a three car line-up and you can read about it here. While we mentioned that the sedan coming in might be a City/Ciaz rival, it seems like Kia might debut a sedan in a higher segment.
The car in the pictures and in question is the Kia Optima. Now the Optima is quite a large car and it will compete against the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and the recently announced Honda Civic. Apart from its generous dimensions, the Optima is quite a looker too. An aggressive front, sharp creases all over and plenty of sporty overtones means it is car that might hold its own against the competition when it comes to styling.
Expect Kia to throw in a bucket-load of features as well. Globally the Optima comes with 7/8-inch touch screen display, 10-speaker Harman/Kardon speaker system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets a rear camera, rear park assist, lane change assist, powered driver and passenger seats and the works.
The Optima internationally is available with a range of petrol engines. There is a 2.4 litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol motors. While there is no diesel internationally, expect the Optima to get the 1.6 litre diesel that also powers the Hyundai Elantra. Kia also has 6-speed AT and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox available depending on the variant they decide to bring in.
While the D-segment isn’t the most buzzing segment in India right now, the arrival of the new Honda Civic and the Kia Optima could set things alight. Keep watching this space for more!
