Kia surprised us all with their much awaited model during its commencement of trial production at its brand new manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The model in question is the SP2i SUV which was showcased albeit with plenty camouflage covering the finer details.
The SP2i will be a D-segment SUV and conveys that Kia is taking a top-down approach for the Indian market. It is based on the SP concept which was first unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo and has all the hallmarks of the latest Kia design language. Compared to the concept which is rather striking looking with its Tiger Nose grille, sleek headlamps and silver coloured elements, the SP2i is relatively toned down to appeal to a wide audience.
We are expecting Kia to introduce their range of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel motors with the SP2i. These engines will come with an option to be paired with either a manual or an automatic gearbox. The trial production of the SP2i that commenced just yesterday will allow Kia to synchronize its manufacturing equipment and processes before series production commences later this year.
