The internationally popular Kia Motors brand will soon announce its debut in India within the next two months. In South Korea, Kia Motors holds the second position while collaboratively Kia Motors and Hyundai Motors hold the fifth position in the global market. The automaker will soon make an official announcement in this regard.
Post investing a considerable amount of time in research and development in India, Kia Motors might roll out its first model in the country in 2019. As per reports, Kia Motors is considering three locations like – Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Initially, the company will have a production capacity of about 3,00,000 units a year. Though the company has not revealed which models will be introduced in India, we believe that the automaker might initially start off with – Picanto, Rio and the Rio sedan.
Kia Motors sells the Picanto hatchback as an entry-level model in the international market. The car comes with 1.2-litre and 1.0-litre engine options, which generates 85bhp of power and 68bhp of power respectively. The stylish Rio hatchback on the other hand is offered in two engine tunes – 1.4-litre petrol and 1.2-litre petrol engines which generate about 104bhp of power and 82bhp of power respectively. The Rio sedan will also share similar engine specs as that of the hatchback. It is to be seen if the India-bound models will also get similar engine specs.
The upcoming cars from Kia Motors will be loaded with modern style upgrades and safety features to make it competitive in the Indian market. India being a price competitive market, we can expect to see a lucrative price tag on the models being launched from the company’s line up. More details on the location of the production set-up will be known in the coming days.
