Kia has officially announced the prices and specs for the all-new Rio hatchback which was previewed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The model range in fact is priced between £11,995 (Rs 10.20 lakh) and £17,445 (Rs 14.84 lakh) depending on the variant.
Kia has revealed that following customer demand, the Rio will now be sold as a five-door model only. In all there are 10 versions in three trim grades – badged 1, 2 and 3. There’s also a limited-run First Edition model as the pinnacle of the range, priced at £17,445.
In the top-spec variants, the Rio gets 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control, black faux leather upholstery, a 7-inch display, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, satellite navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and Bluetooth, electric folding mirrors with LED indicators, cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning systems. As for the entry-level variant, there’s front electric windows, remote locking, electrically adjustable mirrors, a 3.8-inch display, Bluetooth, bi-function projection headlamps and cornering lights and LED daytime running lights.
The new Rio gets Kia's 1-litre turbocharged petrol engines options. They join revised versions of 1.25-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines and two versions of the Euros-spec 1.4-litre turbo diesel. The 1-litre engine is available with either 99 or 118bhp, in both cases with 171Nm of torque.
Kia as we know is preparing to enter the Indian market and is expected to announce its arrival plans soon. The Rio is expected to arrive in the Indian market, alongside the Rio sedan and the Picanto to form Kia India’s line-up.
