Goods and services tax (GST) is a single indirect tax levied on the whole country. The GST implementation will result in the SUV and luxury car segments being one of the major beneficiaries to the new tax rate.
The implementation of Goods & Services Tax (GST) is still a month away but the car manufacturers are helping the customers reap benefits before it is implemented. Jaguar Land Rover India (JLR) has announced a price reduction up to 12 percent which then translates to a benefit ranging from ₹ 2 lakh to ₹ 11 lakh.
Jaguar has a total of four cars in its portfolio – XE, XF, F-Pace and the XJ and the Land Rover sells Discovery and Range Rover. The prices of the vehicles are expected to reduce depending up on the variants and the state they are sold in.
The benefits will be in the range of ₹ 2 lakh to ₹ 5.7 lakh on Jaguar XE sedan and ₹ 4 lakh to ₹ 10.9 lakh on Jaguar XJ. On Land Rover models - Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque, the benefits will vary from ₹ 3.3 lakh to ₹ 7.5 lakh
"Implementation of GST is a historical moment for India which will not only benefit consumers but is also expected to make the whole tax regime simpler and more transparent," JLR India President and Managing Director Rohit Suri said.
Ford India announced discounts of up to ₹ 30,000 on its compact SUV EcoSport, sedan Aspire and hatchback Figo. German luxury carmakers, Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW have already announced benefits, price reduction and lower interest rates for their respective products. Large cars are expected to become cheaper due to lower tax incidence under GST as compared to the current system.
