The Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division of Jaguar Land Rover has told reporters that they plan to build a super car that will rival cars like the Porsche 911 and the Mercedes-AMG GT.
Apart from the obvious inspiration from its competitors, the brand knows that they are capable of pulling off the job due to their expertise on cars like the Project 7 (based on Jaguar F-Type) and the XE-based Project 8 limited editions, which are already under development. And then, there are also cars like the Jaguar F-Type SVR and the Range Rover Sport SVR which are already plying on the road.
John Edwards, MD of the company’s SVO division, disclosed to journalists that SVO is looking to make its own model. “Deep down we want to make our own model. Just look at the success of the AMG GT.”
If JLR’s SVO conceives the idea, the brand could use the F-Type V8 SVR’s mechanicals and chassis engineering as a basis to craft the new model that could sport an all-new body shell and cabin. As of now, there is no confirmation from the car maker about when this project could see the light of the day. However, JLR has disclosed that the Jaguar F-Pace and Range Rover’s Velar are in for some SVO treatment in the meantime. Stay tuned for more information.
