Jaguar Land Rover has no plans (in the near future at least) to open a local manufacturing facility for its vehicles in the sub-continent and this was confirmed by the Ratan Tata himself. He said that they (JLR) sold just over a 1000 units a year in the country and this did not justify the investment required to setup a manufacturing plant.
JLR currently has one facility in Pune where it assembles the Freelander 2 from complete knock down kits imported from the UK. There is also a possibility that Jaguar might start assembling the diesel engined XF sedan from this facility sometime in the future.
The British automaker, owned by the Tata group since 2008, has been on an aggressive expansion plan to setup facilities around the world. It recently broke ground for a new factory in China and is currently in talks with the government of Saudi Arabia to explore the possibility of setting up a JLR factory there.
