Jeep is expected to showcase an all new hybrid SUV concept at the upcoming 2017 Shanghai Motor Show. Two teaser images have surfaced online which give out very few details about the new concept, but Jeep confirms that the new vehicle will only be for the Chinese market.
The teaser images seem to be deliberately made dubious and were revealed on April 1st making it further debatable. But now it has been confirmed by Jeep that this would be a new Concept vehicle which will be bigger than the Renegade but smaller than the new Compass. As seen in the images, the trademark Jeep grille is a bit sleeker with a pair of LED headlamps on either side; similar to the ones seen on the new Cherokee. The other image gives us a glimpse of the car’s beltline with wraparound tail lights, a curved C-pillar and flared wheel-arches. It is also being speculated that the concept might even have three-rows on the inside.
Of all the details available, we know that the new Jeep Concept SUV will be classified as a ‘New Energy Vehicle’ in China. This means, it will either be a pure electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid. With electrification being the trend these days, the SUV carmaker has also announced its intention of rolling out a hybrid or a pure EV soon. This concept could be Jeep’s first step towards electrification.
Guess we’ll have to wait until the Shanghai Motor Show, which opens its gates on April 19th, for more details on the new Jeep SUV. Stay tuned to CarWale for all the news and developments from the Shanghai Motor Show.
