Jeep announced its entry to the Indian market at the 2016 Auto Expo, by showcasing two of its models. The iconic American brand will start selling cars in the second half of 2016 and here is a close look at the Wrangler SUV that would be part of the India range.
The Wrangler will be the entry-level model when the brand starts operations in India. This will be the long-wheelbase Unlimited version carrying the retro styling, that we identify with as Jeeps.
The front has typical seven vertical-slat grille and simple circular headlamps. The design has remained almost unchanged from the initial days though the Wrangler has grown in dimension.
It will be available in both soft top and hardtop variants, with ample number of accessories for styling and also to provide better off-roading capabilities.
The model that will be launched in India will come with the 2.8-litre diesel engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission producing 197bhp.
The Wrangler is known for its off-roading capabilities. It has off-road tyres, four-wheel drive with an option to shift on the fly and differential locks.
On the inside, the SUV seems a little basic. It has black trim, analog instrument cluster, circular AC vents and other features like the touch screen music system, which is standard in this segment.
The Wrangler will be imported to India as a CBU directly from the United States. It doesn’t have a direct rival in India, though in terms of price, it will compete with the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.
