If you are a person who loves cars with a bit of bling (read gold and dragons), you might be pleased with this one. The Jeep Wrangler Dragon Limited Edition has been launched in the China car market. It has gold accents and changes have been brought to both the exterior and interiors of the SUV. The new variant is priced at 5,68,800 Yuan (Rs 58.1 lakh) in China.
The special edition of the Jeep Wrangler comes with gold embellishments. The ‘Jeep’ badge in the front, the grille and the headlamps inserts all get gold accents. A decal of a dragon is seen on the bonnet of the vehicle which extends onto the sides of the vehicle. The ancient Chinese symbol for the dragon is placed on both sides of the vehicle above the ‘Wrangler’ badge. The alloy wheels have been given a tinge of gold and a dragon sticker can be seen on the cover of the spare wheel as well.
On the inside, the first thing that catches one’s attention is the gold on the steering wheel. This is followed by a dragon tattooed on the passenger-handle bar. A closer look reveals that the dial surrounds in the instrument panel and floor-mat borders have been painted in gold. A limited edition label mentions the sales number of the vehicle proclaiming its uniqueness. The black leather seats have been stitched with golden thread and display the dragon in gold again.
Another dragon is waiting to attack under the bonnet but again only in terms of visual appeal. A gold dragon decal has been pasted under the bonnet. People expecting the Dragon Edition to show more power than the outgoing Wranglers might get upset. This limited edition is powered by the same 3.6-litre V6 engine which produces 284bhp of power and 374Nm of torque. No mechanical changes have been done.
Being a limited edition, only 999 units of this variant will be available and according to media in China only 19 such cars have been sold. The Jeep Wrangler Dragon Limited Edition is expensive by 1,18,900 Yuan (Rs 12.16 lakh) than the base model of the Wrangler.
Jeep, the American manufacturer, is now owned by the Fiat group and plans to get the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee to an emerging car market like India. The cars have been spotted testing on Indian soil before. We might be able to see the vehicles in our country soon, as the launch doesn’t seem to be too far.
