Here is yet another look at one of the prototypes of the the Jeep Scrambler, but this time around, we have a clear look at the tailgate.
Rumours so far have suggested that the Scrambler would get a Ridgeline-esque tailgate, but the tailgate in these shots hint at the fact that the Jeep will go with a traditional setup. The return of the Jeep pickup has long been rumoured, but we are getting more up-close shots of what it will look like. It's expected to be based on the long-wheelbase Wrangler Unlimited platform, with similar front-end styling and traditional Jeep styling towards the rear. Expect a size similar to a Chevrolet Colorado or Toyota Tacoma, competing in the midsize pickup class and leaving plenty of breathing room for the Ram 1500.Â
Like the Wrangler, the pickup will adopt more aluminum panels to save weight, while still allowing for good hauling and off-road capabilities. The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 and an eight-speed automatic is likely to be the mainstream powertrain, but a hybrid will be added later. A diesel is a question mark at this point but looking more and more likely.
We expect to see an official debut later this year, with an on-sale date in early 2019.
