The Jeep Renegade a.k.a the baby Jeep has been spotted in the flesh in Michigan, USA. The compact SUV believed to be in pre-production form was unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and is expected to go into production next year. It shares a platform with the Fiat 500X which may be launched sometime next year.
The Jeep Renegade is based on the American automaker’s Small Wide platform architecture and is their new vehicle for the entry-level segment. It is believed that the compact SUV has been created keeping newer markets like India, South Africa and Malaysia in mind.
The test car that has been spotted here is a manual variant and appears to have a lower ground clearance than the concept vehicle but we believe that this is due to some black coloured camouflage covering under body components like the suspension setup and most probably a four-wheel-drive system. It also has white coloured mirrors which appear to have taped off sections which we believe are the mirror mounted OVRMs.
The Jeep Renegade will reach the Indian market by the middle of next year and is likely to be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. It will be joined by the Fiat 500X a few months later sporting the same configuration but with a different body style.
