While India gears up for the upcoming Compass, Jeep is already thinking about launching the smaller Renegade towards the end of next year. Now the Renegade is based on the same platform as the Compass and will share plenty of components. Size-wise, the Renegade has pretty much the same proportions as the Renault Duster or the Hyundai Creta, but sports a retro design theme which harks back to the original toothy Jeep design.
Expected to be assembled alongside the Compass, the Renegade is sure to boast top notch quality thanks to stringent quality levels. Under the hood, the Renegade might get the same engines as the Compass, albeit, with slightly detuned power figures. Expect the 2.0 litre MultiJet engine to put out 140Bhp in the Renegade. It will also get a 1.4 litre MultiAir engine that might churn out the same power as the diesel unit.
Given its strong off-road heritage, the Renegade will very likely be available with four-wheel drive options along with the two-wheel drive variants. The Renegade will be positioned below the Compass and is expected to be the most affordable SUV in Jeep’s line up. In a bid to keep costs down, the Renegade might miss out on features like ESP, curtain airbags, frequency sensing damping shock absorbers and then some. We expect it to be priced in the region of Rs. 16 lakh, with the launch slated towards the end of 2018.
