Just a short while ago Jeep had announced that it would bring the Grand Wagoneer moniker to sit on a super luxurious model that would take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Now, a leaked dealer presentation has revealed the face and rear section of this luxury jeep that is expected to debut in 2019.
The pictures show the face that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will retain the famous seven slat grille but now this vehicle will sport quad projector headlamps similar to what we have been seeing on a certain German sportscar maker. The leaked PowerPoint slide which shows the Grand Wagoneer next to an updated Grand Cherokee indicates that the former will be much larger to match its luxury tag. The pictures also reveal the rear end of the vehicle which features dual chrome exhausts, large glass area and a prominent design for both the number plate section as well as the LED tail lamp.
To put in context, the Wagoneer and later the Grand Wagoneer were top-of-the-line luxury models that Jeep sold in America until 1993. They were feature loaded, usually powered by the big V8s of the era and had a unique wood panelling design that gave the vehicle its signature appearance. The range was named after the wooden horse-drawn wagons that took people across America, over the course of the 18th and 19th century, to expand and develop their growing civilisation.
Like the Grand Wagoneer of 23 years ago, we believe that these cars will be heavy on features and luxury and be the largest model that the automaker has on offer. It is expected to be priced over the 130,000 USD (Rs 86 lakh) mark. Given that most the luxury SUV automaker now assemble their vehicles in India, we believe that India too will be one of the major markets where the SUV will arrive when it is launched in 2019.
