It may have taken them much longer than expected, however, the iconic American carmaker Jeep has finally arrived in the Indian market. The company has just launched two of its most popular models – the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. The latter, of course, is the flagship Jeep offering and accordingly so, has been priced at Rs 93.64 lakh ex-showroom.
Earlier shown at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Grand Cherokee is now officially on sale in three versions with two engine options. Going into the details, there’s Limited and Summit variants powered by a 3-litre V6 diesel engine whereas at the top of the chain, there’s the full fat SRT performance version with a Hemi V8 motor.
The 3-litre V6 diesel produces 240bhp of power and 570Nm of torque. Its paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. In terms of capacities and weights, its got a 93-litre fuel tank and weighs in at 2,432kg and 2,455kg for Limited and Summit versions respectively.
The Grand Cherokee SRT, on the other hand, is all about performance which it highlights through a massive 6.4-litre Hemi V8 motor producing 470bhp of power and 630Nm of torque. It’s even got a fairly impressive towing capacity of 3266kg. As you would expect, all three versions come standard with Jeep’s Selec-Terrain all-wheel drive system with various predefined setups for throttle control, gearbox, transfer case and traction control.
For the price, Jeep is offering high-end features such as Alpine audio system with 7-inch display, 20-inch polished wheels, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, park assist, rear entertainment system and lots more.
