The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler (in both wheelbases) have been spied testing in Goa by the team from GoaonWheels. This is the third sighting of the same trio in the last three months. These vehicles were previously spied during testing outside Pune and then at the Naigaon exit on the Mumbai-Ahemadabad highway in March. Fiat had announced in December that it would bring the Jeep brand to the Indian market via the CBU route by the third quarter of 2013.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee will be powered by 3.0 litre turbo-diesel V6 that will produce 237bhp and 550Nm of Torque whereas the Wrangler will be powered by 2.8 litre diesel mill that produces 200bhp of peak power and 460Nm of torque. While the vehicle on test it the previous model, the report confirms that Fiat will launch the facelifted version of the SUV for the Indian market.
The introduction of the Jeep brand for the Indian market is a part of the Italian automakers expansion plans over the next few years.
This plan includes a compact SUV (to debut in 2015) as well as the introduction of Mopar (Motor Parts), a spare parts company that provides performance-oriented spares for Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep will also make its debut in the market soon. This means that spares for Chrysler group products will not be an issue.
