Jeep is prepping up a new version of the Compass called the Trailhawk. This off-road heavy version of the American SUV has been spotted undergoing tests on many occasions already and there was no official timeline of its Indian debut, until now. Jeep India has put out a teaser which states that the Compass Trailhawk will be officially revealed in June with sales commencing within the month, post-launch.
For the uninitiated, the Trailhawk will mark the debut of the diesel-automatic for the Compass. The ‘trail rated’ version has an increased ride-height, additional off-road hardware and a new automatic transmission. This is the same ZF-sourced nine-speed unit which is made in India for the international markets. The Trailhawk will also have the BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine.
The Trailhawk is also equipped with additional hardware to make it more potent on the off-road terrain. Moreover, the low-range gearbox is likely to be a part of the package with the 4x4 guise in order to add to the SUV’s off-roading credentials. The Selec-Terrain Traction Management System with driving modes is standard too and it also gets a Rock mode apart from Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes.
The ride height of the Compass Trailhawk is increased by 20 mm compared to the standard car and it also has redesigned bumpers for better approach and departure angles. Other distinct features include a tow hook and a black bonnet decal with Trailhawk badging all around the car. Even the cabin is expected to get a larger 8.4-inch infotainment screen featuring the Uconnect system with satellite navigation, adjustable driver’s seat, sunroof and revised upholstery.
When it goes on sale in India, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be priced between Rs 25-30 lakhs ex-showroom. This will make it sit above the top-of-the-line Limited Plus variant, and it will also become the most off-road capable vehicle in its segment.
