Jeep Compass launched at Rs 14.95 lakhs

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles launched its first India-made Jeep, the Compass, at a price tag of Rs 14.95 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. The compact SUV will be offered in three trims – Sport, Longitude and Limited – and five colours with two engines, two gearboxes and four-wheel drive options. The five-seater compact SUV will mark the beginning of the Jeep’s India line-up and sits well below the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep Compass is the first in the three cars planned for India and is offered in the Sport, Longitude and Limited trims with optional extras offered on Longitude and Limited.

The Compass gets 16-inch steel wheels, five-inch touchscreen infotainment system, halogen headlamps, front airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, ABS and EBD, all four disc brakes, electric parking brake, electric ORVMs and all-black interiors as standard. The top-spec trim gets an 8-inch display screen, ski-grey interior and scuff plates along with 17-inch alloys.

The Compass in India has two engine options – the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 2.0-litre turbodiesel. The Multi-air four-cylinder petrol engine develops over 160bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre diesel is also an inline-four cylinder engine and develops over 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. The petrol engine gets an optional DCT transmission while the diesel only comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. AWD is offered only on the top-spec Limited trim and you can opt for the Selec-Terrain Traction management system that includes different drive modes as well.

For now, Jeep has about 10 functional dealerships across the country and FCA is expected to ramp up the service network before future Jeep models are brought into this market.
