Jeep Compass diesel automatic to be launched in first half of 2019

-  The Trail Hawk variant will debut the diesel-automatic in the Compass.

-   It will be the top-spec variant with increased ride-height and added off-road hardware. 

-  Expected to be priced between Rs 25-30 lakhs. 

Jeep showcased the Compass Trail Hawk at a special showcase event in March this year. But according to recent reports, the launch of the top-spec Compass will happen in India by the first half of 2019. The Trail Hawk will debut the diesel automatic variant in the Compass.

The Trail Hawk is a special version of the SUV which comes with a better off-road package compared to the regular model. As a part of Jeep’s heritage for off-roading, the Trail Hawk versions of its SUV come equipped with additional hardware to make it more potent on the off-road terrain. In India, the Compass Trail Hawk will come with the same 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine option but in the BS-IV guise. It will produce around 171bhp/350Nm and will be re-tuned for the new emission norms. Internationally, the Compass Trail Hawk is sold with a nine-speed automatic transmission which is exported through the Ranjangaon facility in India. But the ZF-derived automatic transmission mated to the diesel engine will extract a lot of premium in terms of pricing. Moreover, the low-range gearbox might also be part of the package in the 4x4 guise to add to the SUV’s off-roading credentials. The Selec-Terrain Traction Management System with driving modes will come as standard.

The Trail Hawk will sit 20-inches higher than the standard car with redesigned bumpers for better approach and departure angles. There will be a new set of alloy wheels apart from tow hooks and a black bonnet decal with a plethora of Trail Hawk badging. Even the cabin will get a larger 8.4-inch infotainment screen featuring the Uconnect system with satellite navigation, adjustable driver’s seat, sunroof and revised upholstery.

When launched in India next year, the Jeep Compass Trail Hawk will be pricier than the top-spec Limited Plus variant. We expect the price tag to be somewhere between Rs 25-30 lakhs ex-showroom.
