The assembly line components for the new compact SUV from Jeep (codenamed 551/556) has been imported from South Korea. The components that have been imported are the bits for the marriage line which basically connects the body and drive train. Fiat is investing a significant amount in its Ranjangaon plant to expand its manufacturing capability and in the larger scheme of things export operations. The large investment and the arrival of the new production lines indicates that this new C-SUV will not be the only model that the manufacturer will produce for India as well as RHD export markets. The Jeep compact SUV will be their entry into the C-segment and will slot in below their current entry level vehicle, the Renegade. It will use the same Small Wide modular platform that underpins the Renegade and Fiat 500X. It is expected to be offered with petrol and diesel engines and both in FWD and AWD guises.
