Jaguar and Land Rover India has introduced a new base variant of its flagship luxury saloon – the Jaguar XJ L. The car is expected to be priced at Rs 1.16 crore (official announcement yet to be received) which is Rs 14 lakh cheaper than the previous base variant.
The new base variant of the Jaguar XJ gets the 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine which has been sourced from Ford and powers the US spec Ford Taurus SHO sedan, the only difference both cars being that the Taurus is front wheel drive. The engine churns out 240PS at 5500rpm of maximum power with peak torque of 340Nm at 1750 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission which transmits the power to the rear wheels. The new XJ L can do 0-100kmph in 7.5 seconds but the power is 100PS less than its previous base variant, the 3.0-litre supercharged petrol engine.
The introduction of a new base variant clearly indicates that the sales for the Mercedes-Benz S Class, A8L and BMW 7-Series competitor isn’t doing very well and is a need of a cut price version to boost sales of the luxury saloon.
Edit: The 2.0-litre Jaguar XJ L is priced at Rs 1.16 crore 9ex-showroom Delhi). For further details on the various models and their prices, please visit the Jaguar homepage on our website.
