It has been seven years since Jaguar launched the XF saloon and till now it has been through a mid-cycle facelift as well. This now signifies that the second-generation model is due and it has also been spotted testing in certain locations. While one would expect it to be based on the same architecture. A source claims that the new XF might use the underpinnings of the upcoming entry-level luxury sedan – the XE.
While, we expect the next XF to grow bigger and offer more room inside, is it possible using the compact XE’ underpinnings? Well, it is possible. The company officials had previously mentioned that the platform iQ[AI] is scalable and also added that it will be used for a wide range of vehicles.
This also indicates that the new XF will be lighter despite being bigger and also share the new Ingenium family of engines. Apart from all this the new XF might also derive its suspension from the XE which is made lightweight using aluminium and features a double-wishbone setup.
Increasing number of manufacturers are shifting to a single architecture theme. Although, it is not always possible with some companies, Jaguar can definitely benefit from it, considering they have a relatively smaller product portfolio than others. We would be eager to see how well the new iQ[AI] platform is used by Jaguar.
