The Jaguar XE has been in the news for longer than we can recollect, and for good reasons. Poised as a direct rival to the BMW 3 Series, the XE is Jaguar’s upcoming entry-level luxury sedan with a string of clever tech never seen before in a car of this segment.
Before its official launch which is scheduled to take place in London on September 8, Jaguar has released a few more details about the XE’s lightweight aluminium construction and its clever chassis. In fact, the brand is so confident with its newest model that its chief engineer of vehicle integrity, Mike Cross, says that the XE “dynamically outperforms its rivals”.
To begin with, the XE’s lightweight aluminium construction includes integral link rear suspension, which is unique in the premium compact executive class, says Jaguar. Besides cutting down on road noise and vibrations when hitting a bump, the clever new suspension setup keeps the severity of big bumps in check.
As for the front end, the front suspension is based on the F-Type’s hardware. Jaguar even claims that the XE delivers XFR levels of stiffness and class-leading steering feel. The latest EPS system in the car will also feature self-parking and active lane-keeping.
The launch of the XE will also mark the debut of Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium four-cylinder engine range. The car will be offered with a super-efficient 2-litre, four cylinder diesel engine. This engine will eventually be offered with the new Land Rover Discovery Sport due in late 2015.
Globally, the new XE will rival the likes of BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Looking to get hold of a bigger share in the Indian luxury car market, Jaguar India is expected to launch the XE sometime next year in the Indian market.
