After BMW and Audi, it is now Jaguar’s turn to introduce a long wheelbase version of their mid-size executive sedan, the XE. The car spotted on test has been designed specifically for China as stretched versions of standard premium sedans are quite popular among Chinese buyers.
This new model’s wheelbase has been extended by 12cm for more room in the rear. Likely to be labelled XE L, the vehicle will be manufactured by the Chery-JLR joint venture. Whereas the regular XE is imported into China, this will be a locally-made model which will allow Jaguar to sell it at a lower price point.
Under the hood, engine options will include a 200bhp, 2-litre turbo, a 240bhp 2-litre turbo, and a high performance 340bhp 3-litre turbo V6. The Jaguar XE L will compete against the other long wheelbase luxury sedans like the Audi A4 L, Mercedes C-Class L and the BMW 4Li.
