The XE SV Project 8 is a special car and it has to be, after all it was built by Jaguar’s performance division, Special Vehicle Operations. With a 5-litre supercharged V8 under the hood belting out 592bhp, this mean cat is expected to have a top speed of over 300 kmph and hit 100 kmph in 3.3 seconds. With such insane numbers and handling to match, Series Elite, a privately run racing initiative decided to make a racing series with it. But this is isn’t like your average racing series. This one’s for the ‘elite’ kind only and you have to be over 50 years old.
As the series organizer puts it, this racing series is for the mature driver only and all 20 of them will be handed keys to lightly modded XE SV Project 8’s. And these cars will be the best examples of race on Sunday, work on Monday because they can be turned into normal road cars once the series is over. Jaguar had planned to build just 300 examples of the Project 8 and this series will make sure that none of the cars remain unsold. Now the organizers do not expect all of the clientele to be race ready, and so they will be providing all the relevant training, testing and race experience needed to compete in the new series. The cars will also be prepared and stored in a central facility.
The series will kick off in May 2019 and run 12 races across the United Kingdom and Europe. Additionally the organizers also plan to woo in drivers with other experiences, such as dinners with racing legends, a Formula E race weekend, ice driving, and also an African safari.
