Jaguar has announced that it will debut a new high-performance version of its flagship XJ sedan called the XJR at the New York Auto Show which is slated to begin next week. This car will join the British luxury car makers R line up which currently features cars like the XFR sedan and its famous two-door coupe the XKR.
Most details about the car are still sketchy, however we know that the XJR will become Jaguar’s flagship model and will be powered by its 5.0-litre V8 engine which produces 542bhp and roughly around 680Nm of torque. The car will also get a special aerodynamic package and in the words of the company, a ‘bespoke’ chassis.
Commenting on the XJR, Adrian Hallmark, global brand director, said: "The new XJR epitomises the three pillars of technology, performance and contemporary design which the Jaguar brand stands for in the twenty-first century, while delivering new levels of dynamic ability in a luxury saloon."
It is likely that Jaguar at some point in the next year-and-a-half after the XJRs release will launch it for the Indian market but only in long-wheelbase version.
