Jaguar has unveiled its most efficient engine yet in the form of a new 2.2-litre diesel unit. The engine churns out 190 PS of power and close to 450Nm of torque and also promises low emissions as well as better performance.
Fitted to a prototype development vehicle, the new 2,179 cc, four-cylinder 16-valve common rail diesel engine features a water-cooled turbocharger with low-friction pistons, new injectors and a new crankshaft. The new powertrain will feature in a future XF production car. The XF S (read road test here), currently available in India boasts of a 3-litre V6 twin turbo engine and we hope to see the 2.2-litre engine soon in India, but how soon is difficult to tell.
