Jaguar has released an image of one of the most important cars in the company's recent years, the upcoming XE. This is first official picture of the baby sedan released by Jaguar, apart from a digital illustration it had made public a few months ago. The XE will be globally unveiled on September 8 in a segment which is currently dominated by the three German saloons, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A4.
The new photo released by Jaguar shows the front end of the XE with a deep front bumper with three wide air intakes. The front adheres to the British manufacturer’s design language and both the headlamps and front grille, with its honeycomb design, looks very similar to that on the XF. An S badge adorns the front grille which is an indicator that the car is a performance version.
Jaguar has already confirmed that one variant of the XE will be powered by the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 engine from the F-Type S and it is very likely that this XE S will employ this powertrain. A few days ago, Jaguar had officially released some details of the Ingenium series of turbocharged engines, which are also going to be used in the XE. Promising ‘class-leading levels of torque, horsepower and refinement’ along with reduce emissions and increased fuel efficiency, these new engines will be flexible enough to be used across multiple platforms and segments.
As a part of its campaign to promote the car, Jaguar has roped in celebrities like recording artist Emeli Sande, actor Idris Elba and fashion designer Stella McCartney. The company also revealed that a ‘Feel XE’ song is being composed by Emeli which will be performed at the launch event.
The rest of Jaguar’s line-up has been selling quite well in the Indian market, though the numbers are relatively less as compared to its three German rivals. With backing from Tata, Jaguar has adopted an aggressive strategy with its new products and the XE is the company’s attempt of re-entering the lucrative entry-level luxury segment.
