It is being said that Jaguar is already mulling the idea of a Project 9 but the Special Vehicle Operations unit hasn’t thought of the platform as yet. Project 7, a homage to the legendary D-type, elevated the F-type while the Project 8, the Nurburgring scorcher, made the newbie Jaguar XE a hero.
IF SVO decides to go with the flow, the Project 9 might be an SUV. In that case, with the F-Pace already getting the SVR badge, it can either be the E-Pace or the I-Pace. With a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 under its hood, the E-Pace-based Project 9 can be a Lamborghini Urus challenger for sure.
On the other hand, Jaguar is celebrating 50 years of the XJ and if heritage is something that the SVO holds dear, then Project 9 should ideally prelude the all-new XJ which will debut by the end of 2018. Jaguar has already built the XJ50 special edition based on the current-gen XJ but if Project 9 is based on the new XJ, this tribute to 50 years of the badge would certainly be befitting.
